Overview

A Brief About Hamadan:

Some others, too, believe the structures of the city is related to 'Diya Aku' one of the monarchs of the Medes about 700 B.C. According to the records of a reputed Greek historian, this territory was called 'Ecbatana' and ' Hegmataneh' by this monarch. A German engineer designed the central square of this city in 1928 A.D that divided the city into six main avenues, and is considered as the main part of the city. The city was captured by the Arabs in 641 or 642 and for some centuries remained a provincial capital. During this period, the city was the home of some of the great thinkers and artists of the Islamic period like Ab? Tamm?m (The poet and anthologist ) al-Hamadh?n? (writer) B?b? ??hir ( notable poet) and the Avicenna( physician and philosopher ). It is located in west-central Iran, situated at the northeastern foot of Mount Alvand, and has a distance of 337 km of Tehran. Hamadan with its ancient name of Ecbatana is mentioned in the biblical book of Ezra as the place where a scroll was found giving the Jews permission from King Darius to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem. (Ezra 6:2) and there is a tradition of Jewish association with the town
