Ahvaz is one of the oldest cities of the country and was called "oksin" in the inscriptions.- This word appears in Naghsh-Rostam inscription as "Khaja"or " Khooja " - Some historians believe this city is the same city as Aguinis that is mentioned by Straboon, but in great extend it is constructed in the site of old city of Tariana. The Sassanids king Ardeshir I reconstructed Tariana, named it Hormozd Ardeshir, and built a dam on Karoon River close to it. The city flourished in his time considerably and became the capital of Suziana (Khuzestan) instead Susa.

Qeshm Island (also spelled Qishm, Persian Jazireh-ye qeshm, Arabic Jazirat al-iawilah) is located a few kilometers off the Persian Gulf. Qeshm is the biggest island in the Persian Gulf near the straits of Hormoz.. The island, which hosts a 3 hundred square kilometer free zone jurisdiction. The Qeshm island, at its widest point, located near the center of the island, spans 40 kilometers. Qeshm has a surface area of 1491 square kilometers and is 2.5 times the size of Bahrain. Qeshm city, located at the easternmost point of the island, is 22 kilometers from Bandar Abbas while the closest point of the island is but two kilometers from the mainland.

In the province of East Azerbaijan near Tabriz there is a quaint and mysterious thirteenth century village that the homes of its inhabitant have been made in cone-shaped caves. These naturally formed compressed volcanic ash formations have made village look like a gigantic termite colony. Some of these houses are at least 700 years old and are so peculiar and unique that everybody likes to visit them once.

Among all cities of Iran, which each has an individual ancient precedence, Hamadan has a special place. Some historians believe that this city's construction dates back to 3000 B.C. while according to an inscription from the first Assyrian king; it is attributed to 1100 B.C.

Mashhad is the second largest city of Iran, which is located in north east of the country close to the borders of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan. It was a major city along the ancient Silk Road and is also known as the holiest city in Iran, where the eighth Imam of Shia Muslims – Imam Reza- was martyred and his shrine is placed there. Even Its name comes from Arabic language and means the place of martyrdom (burial place of the martyr). Mashhad is one of the holiest cities in the Shia world, which is thought that over 20 million Muslims a year make the pilgrimage to this city.
